ISOK Parent/Student Mentor Ambassador Program

 
ISOK welcomes parent and student volunteers who are committed to and passionate about supporting other parents, learning coaches, and students new to the online learning environment. The Parent/Student Mentor Ambassador Program is a program designed to increase relationship building and build a support system for new parents, learning coaches, and students at ISOK. The program provides the education, training, and support necessary to ensure parents and students have the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to help the new ISOK student achieve success in their first year at ISOK. The Parent/Student Mentor Ambassador Program is free and voluntary for parents, learning coaches, and students who have at least one child grade 7th-12th who have successfully completed one year at ISOK.


Parents or learning coaches interested in mentoring new parents or learning coaches for the 2018-2019 school year must be at least 21 years of age. Mentors must complete a written application, submit the names of 3 ISOK teacher or staff references, participate in a phone interview with the ISOK Family Resource Coordinator, and attend a required pre-service training. Students interested in mentoring new students for the 2018-2019 school year must be an ISOK student in the 8th-12th grade. The student mentor must be passing all classes and must have successfully complete one year at ISOK. The student mentor must complete a written application, submit the names of 3 ISOK teacher or staff references, participate in a phone interview with the ISOK Family Resource Coordinator, and attend pre-service training.


Role and Responsibilities:


• To provide support and assistance to parents and learning coaches in navigating the online school.

• To work with the parent or learning coach on setting a daily school schedule that works for the family’s specific situation.

• To provide the parent or learning coach with information on who to contact at ISOK for transcripts, school verifications, or various other questions.

• To attend all pre-service training.

• To maintain regular and frequent contact with the ISOK Social Worker.

• To commit to service in the program for the 2018-2019 school year.

• To maintaining the confidentiality regarding the parent and student.

• To immediately report any incidents of abuse or neglect to Oklahoma Department of Human Services, the ISOK Principal and the ISOK Social Worker.

• To familiarize yourself with the policies and procedures of the program and function in accordance with these guidelines whenever serving as a representative of the Parent Mentor Ambassador Program.


Student Mentor Role and Responsibilities:

• To provide support and assistance to new students in navigating the online school.

• To work with the student on setting a daily school schedule that works for the family’s specific situation.

• To provide the student with information on who to contact at ISOK for transcripts, school verifications, or various other questions.

• To attend all pre-service training.

• To maintain regular and frequent contact with the ISOK Social Worker.

• To commit to service in the program for the 2018-2019 school year.

• To maintaining the confidentiality regarding the student. Bullying and/or disclosing another student’s personal information to other students will not be tolerated.

• To immediately report any incidents or concerns the ISOK Principal and the ISOK Family Resource.

• To familiarize yourself with the policies and procedures of the program and function in accordance with these guidelines whenever serving as a representative of the Student Mentor Ambassador Program.
